Increasingly, environmental issues dominate the public agenda, yet there are few professionals equipped with legal skills as well as analytical and quantitative training. A new dual degree program, established by the Program in Economics, Law, and the Environment (ELE), will prepare you to enter the field solidly grounded in both. The ELE Program is a collaboration between the University of Arizona’s James E. Rogers College of Law and the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics in the University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Students enjoy the world-class resources of a highly ranked research institution, nationally recognized faculty, and an intellectually challenging program delivered in a collegial atmosphere.
In a rigorous 4-year program, students complete their law degree (JD) and a Master of Science degree (MS) with a major in Agricultural and Resource Economics. Graduates also receive a Graduate Certificate in Economics, Law, and the Environment.
Special program features include
• One year of core training in law
• One year of core training in microeconomics and econometrics
• An annual Spring ELE Workshop
• Required courses taught by leaders in environmental law and environmental
economics
• A wide array of electives to allow students to tailor their educational
programs
• Writing projects with support and supervision from key faculty (no
thesis requirement)
• Frequent workshops, symposia, speakers and discussion groups with
applied and scholarly emphases
Admission to the program requires separate applications to
both the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (http://ag.arizona.edu/arec/academics/grad/grad.html)
and the College of Law (http://www.law.arizona.edu/admissions/).
